Frequently asked Questions

What Should I Expect At The Consultation?

For both the couture and standard service, you could expect the initial consultation to take around an hour. This time is your time. We won’t see anyone else during your consultation, so you will have our undivided attention. Feel free to bring your mum, your friend or anyone else you feel comfortable with.

During this time we will discuss your requirements with you, listen to your ideas and show you examples of our beautiful fabrics. We will take your measurements and sketch out the design of your dress in order to give you a vision of how it will look when completed.

What next?

Within the next few days we will contact you with the final price of your dress. There is nothing to pay up to this stage. The consultation is absolutely free. If you decide to go ahead and once we have received your deposit payment (50%), we will order your dress fabric. After that we will send you a copy of the sketch and a sample of the fabric, along with confirmation that we have received your deposit payment.

What is a Toile? (Couture service only)

A toile is a test garment made from muslin. This is made to your style and size and is fitted to you at the first fitting stage. It enables us to assess the fit, proportion and movement of the dress and gives an opportunity to change the design and make any necessary alterations.

Once we are sure that the toile reflects the style and fit of the original design, it is taken apart and used as the pattern for your actual dress. It is unique to you, so we know that your dress will fit perfectly.

What Do You Mean By Couture?

Haute couture is a French expression, and it refers to how the garment is constructed. Translated literally it means high sewing, or sewing of the highest standard. For example, a couture bodice is all about the inside story. It would have a minimum of six different layers to it, all of which must be sewn together separately.

For a Couture Garment, How Many Appointments Would I Need?

This can vary depending on the garment, but usually you would need between four and six appointments in total.

What is your Standard Dress Service?

We have introduced this service for those people who are unable to attend the various fittings required for a couture garment. This service includes a full consultation as described above. We will then make your dress up to your specific requirements and to the nearest standard size (taking into account your figure variations).

The dress is then completed ready for collection. Please note that any alterations required after completion will be chargeable.

The standard dress service is less expensive than the couture service, but you are still guaranteed a beautiful dress made to a high standard.

At What Point Would I Need to Pay?

50% deposit with order.

Couture Service - 25% at first dress fitting stage, 25% upon collection of finished dress.

Standard Service - 50% upon completion of finished dress.
